In 2015, 193 nations (including the United States) adopted a set of 17 global goals, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or Agenda 2030, that offers a comprehensive roadmap to end poverty and gender inequalities by 2030.
In March, at the Commission on the Status of Women, after months of coordinating, I was excited to meet, listen, and learn from our Alliance members from Nigeria who had come to present their work on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5). They were not just presenting their work, but how they do it and why it is different.
In less than three months, the Trump administration has sent a clear message to the global community: The United States will no longer fund the fight to achieve gender equality worldwide.
