Women Thrive Worldwide Has Been Awarded the 2007 Mildred Robbins Leet Award for the Advancement of Women
Ritu Sharma Fox, President and Co-Founder of Women Thrive Worldwide, and Nora O'Connell, Vice President of Women Thrive's Global Development Program, received the 13th Leet award at a luncheon on April 19, 2007, during InterAction’s Annual Forum in Washington, D.C. Women Thrive was one of three organizations receiving the award this year.
This year’s Leet award focused on ‘breakthroughs’ in women’s empowerment and gender equality, and prioritized initiatives that significantly scaled up impact, focused on a new area, or effectively brought a new strategy to bear on an enduring and challenging issue.
Women Thrive Worldwide was cited in its award letter for demonstrating “exceptional leadership in its ‘breakthrough’ gender policy advocacy work with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)”. The letter further congratulated Women Thrive “...for its leadership in promoting policy change and demonstrating how to advance women’s empowerment.”
InterAction established the award in 1995 at the time of the UN Fourth World Women’s Conference in Beijing, to recognize member agencies that have worked towards greater gender equity in programs and management and in expanding opportunities for women’s leadership.
