CSW62 Side-Event: Feminist Movements Under Attack
March 19 @ 3:00 pm - 4:15 pmfree
Worldwide, governments and non-state actors are deliberately attacking civil society freedoms at an unprecedented scale. For feminists and women human rights defenders the restrictions and violations are double-layered, based on the multiple layers of oppression. Those operating in rural spaces face another layer of difficulty in defending rights and advancing their activism.
Join the Danish Permanent Mission to the U.N., Women Thrive Alliance, CIVICUS, FEMNET in collaboration with a number of other CSOs for an interactive discussion on the topic of attacks on the civic freedoms of the feminist movement with a focus on the activist in rural spaces. Specifically, this event will look at the need to centralize gender equality and feminist voices who typically face extra layers of restrictions to carry out their work.
Speakers and participants include grassroots gender equality organizations, LBTQI organizations, women human rights defenders’ networks, and individual “non-traditional” activists and advocates from around the world.
